The AI Double Standard
I am so tired of watching authors get destroyed over something every single person in publishing does every single day. So here is my statement on it.
AI has been embedded in computing since Windows 3. It is under virtually every tool people use today: Google Search, Amazon, Grammarly, spell check, Word, Google Docs, indie publishing platforms like the one any indie author is using right now, and yes, every AI scanner being used to police authors is junk. This is not new. This is how technology works.
If you are using any of those tools, you are using AI. Own it authors, publishing houses and especially editors!
And those videos you are making to critique other authors is AI! The editing software, the filters, the auto captions, and the platform you uploaded them to are all AI. Every single bit of it.
The argument that AI will replace authors does not hold up. AI cannot replicate lived experience, personal voice, or authentic storytelling. A well-written book by a real person will always stand on its own.
Readers know the difference. Stop calling them stupid.
There is also no law prohibiting the use of AI tools in writing. If there were, the overwhelming majority of people throwing stones would be standing right next to the authors they are attacking. So before climbing on that snottie soapbox, take a hard look at what is running on your own computer. You are not protecting readers. You are just choosing who gets to use the same tools you already use every day and calling them out for it, perhaps to keep the blame away from yourselves.
People have done real damage to real authors and their career's over something you do yourself every single day without thinking twice about it. Are you using a computer, a smartphone, watching a video or a smart TV right now? It is run on ai!
